Fiona

Some time ago I suffered from depression which was partly due to my work and once I started feeling better about life, I felt that because of what I had been through, I would like to support others experiencing mental health challenges.  I decided to look for courses that would assist me to find a new career, which, with Fircroft College’s help, I did.

I chose to study quite a few courses including bereavement and psychology that really helped me gain understanding and insight into mental health issues, what causes them, coping strategies and how to support people

I am truly thankful for the support and understanding from all the staff that helped me at Fircroft, during the time I was studying the Level 3 Mental Health course, especially my tutor. Her support, understanding, and belief in me, even though I was going through a difficult time, really made a difference.  In addition, I had at the time of my course starting, lost someone close to suicide, so some of the topics I was studying were really sensitive, and my tutor was so supportive. Fircroft has helped me to gain skills for my current role as a Support Worker in a forensic mental health hospital, which I really enjoy, and I am very grateful to Fircroft for this.
