The pandemic has been extremely hard on everyone across the nation, but what cannot be ignored is the disruption it has caused those who are in education. A lot of our students enjoy studying at Fircroft because of its remote learning environment and our ability to separate students from certain outside pressures they may be facing, providing them with a unique space to further their learning.
Our Access students were particularly affected by the pandemic as most students are long term residents at the college for the duration of their 9-month course. We are extremely proud of each and every student on the Access to Higher Education Diplomas courses, their patience and perseverance has been admirable and inspiring to watch.
Due to the lifting of government guidelines we have been able to safely welcome back our Access students with open arms and thought we would kick off their return with some creative work. Our Access tutor Angela Bate kindly organised for students to design their own t-shirt as a fun way of easing back into the intense course but also to reward students for their strength during the uncertain times caused by the pandemic.
Creative expression is a freedom we all have and one we like to encourage at the college whenever we can. Please take a look at some of our Access students busy at work!
One of the students, Claire, says “The Access to HE course has undoubtedly been challenging this year because of Covid-19, but the college has done whatever it can to make it run smoothly, pulling out all the stops where possible, with excellent pastoral and educational support.”
