Entry-Level 3

This course is for anyone who would like to develop their ability in English.

You will learn to structure your writing, use appropriate vocabulary and grammar, and develop your own writing style. Through guided writing exercises, participants will enhance their ability to express their thoughts, opinions, and arguments effectively in written form

The course begins by emphasising the importance of planning and organising written work. You will learn effective pre-writing strategies, such as mind mapping, outlining, and creating drafts, to structure your ideas and develop a logical flow in their writing. You will also explore different writing styles and genres, adapting your writing to specific purposes and audiences.

Throughout the course, you will engage in various writing activities, including descriptive, narrative, persuasive, and argumentative writing. You will learn how to craft engaging introductions, develop well-supported arguments, and write compelling conclusions. You will also explore techniques for including evidence, examples and relevant details to enhance the quality and persuasiveness of your writing.

The Write for Meaning course places a strong emphasis on revision and editing. You will learn strategies for reviewing and revising your work, focusing on clarity, coherence, and effectiveness. You will develop skills in editing, identifying and correcting errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. You will also receive feedback and guidance from the tutor to improve your writing skills and refine your written communication.

Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to practice your writing skills through a variety of writing tasks, essays, and creative assignments. You will receive constructive feedback and support to help you develop your writing abilities and improve your overall written communication.

Entry Requirements

You must be working at Entry-Level 3 in Literacy, or above

Progression

Alongside studying the rest of the English Programme, you will be able to work effectively at Entry-Level 3 for English
