Level 1

The word “dementia” is an umbrella term used to cover a range of different types of dementia, this course will provide an opportunity to:

  • explore some of these different types, such as Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and Lewy Bodies dementia.
  • gain an insight into how dementia is diagnosed and the signs and symptoms associated with each type of dementia, as well as looking at the parts of the brain that are affected
  • consider the different experiences of people living with dementia
  • consider attitudes that others may have toward individuals with dementia

On successful completion of this course, you will:

  • Have an understanding of different types of dementia and signs and symptoms of different types of dementia.
  • How dementia is diagnosed.
  • The impact of dementia on the family and the individual.

Entry Requirements

You must be working at Literacy Level 1.

The course is open to anyone but may be of particular interest to those interested in gaining employment within the care sector, looking after elderly individuals
