This course is for anyone whose first language is English and would like to develop their ability in reading English

On this course you will learn strategies to find out key information, identify main ideas, make inferences, and evaluate written texts across various types of reading materials. By analysing texts, engaging in discussions, and practicing comprehension exercises, you will enhance your ability to understand and interpret written information effectively.

The course begins by developing your basic reading skills, such as skimming and scanning texts, to quickly identify important information. You will learn strategies for effective reading, including previewing texts, making predictions, and setting reading goals. You will also develop techniques for active reading, such as highlighting, note-taking, and summarizing, to deepen your understanding of the reading material.

As the course progresses, you will delve into more complex reading comprehension strategies. You will learn to analyse text structures, identify main ideas, and recognise supporting details. You will develop skills in drawing conclusions, making inferences, and understanding implicit meaning. Through close reading exercises and guided discussions, you will gain confidence in your ability to comprehend and interpret a wide range of written texts.
