In this section, I am putting together learning resources that will be useful for anyone wanting to understand more about Diversity and Equality.

Section 1 - Guides to Diversity and Equality - provides a number of guides, which look at the development of Diversity and Equality issues in England over the last decade, and provide some basic information about what we mean by ‘Diversity and Equality’ today. Students who are thinking of coming on the Certificate in Managing Diversity and Equality courses at Fircroft College will find these are a useful introduction to the main themes that we explore on the programme.

Section 2 - Land of Dreams - provides more specialised resources on the history of the Caribbean community in Birmingham.

The material was originally published in 1993 as part of my book Land of Dreams, which in turn is based upon material collected by Fircroft students and staff in Birmingham in the 1950’s and in the 1980’s. It is a fascinating insight into the lives of those who first came to England in the early years of the Second World War to help “Defend the Mother Country!” and who later returned to build their lives here in the West Midlands.
