ICT
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) courses at Fircroft are ideal for people with limited or no experience in using computers. These courses are aimed at introducing you to computing and teaching you some basic but important skills, in areas such as word processing, using the Internet, email, graphic design, desktop publishing, digital photography and using spreadsheets. You’ll get lots of support from your tutor and plenty of opportunity to practice what you’ve learnt.
If you have never used a computer before you need to start with the Beginner ICT course first before continuing onto the other courses. Please note – all courses listed are at Entry 3 Level and not suitable for students with very good ICT skills.
How much does it cost?
These courses are FREE of charge if you are claiming means-tested benefits, otherwise they are just £40 per person (including all accommodation, meals, tuition and learning resources).

Beginner ICT
|
This course offers an introduction to using computers. So if you don’t know your hardware from your software or input from your output, come on this course. You will understand the terminology and become more familiar with the purpose of computers. You will learn the basics and be using a computer throughout the course.

Introduction to Word Processing
|
Word processing is the most commonly used type of software package. This introductory course will show you how to use word processing software and develop your self-confidence. You will learn how to make changes to the appearance of your work. You will cut, copy and paste text as well spell checking, saving and printing.

Introduction to Using the Internet
|
Do you get frustrated when trying to find information on the web? This introductory course shows you how internet addresses are made up and how to go to the websites that you are after. You’ll also learn some useful techniques, such as how to use hyperlinks to navigate around a website and how to add certain websites to your ‘favourites’ list.

Interested in managing your home finances better? Creating budgets? You don’t need to be great at Maths for this introductory course. We will show you how to use spreadsheet software to visually display figures and numbers.

Using Email
|
Emails are a useful way of communicating instantly and electronically. You will learn how to create your own email account, how to write, send and receive emails and how to manage your emails effectively. You will also learn about ‘net etiquette’, as well as common problems associated with email and legal issues.

Introduction to Graphics
|
This course offers an introduction to using images on a computer. You will learn the basics of image editing. You will also be shown how to use Microsoft Word and Paint as image editing software. You will also be introduced to the different types of images available on the web and will also learn how to scan and save images. This course will give you the knowledge and practice you need to be able to edit images independently. Ideal progression from Word Processing and Using the Internet.
