Success rates at Fircroft are high –consistently at least 10% above the national average. Progression to Higher Education is also outstanding with most students going straight onto the university degree of their choice.
Fircroft is a small, friendly and supportive residential college. You’ll be joining a community of like-minded people, studying in small groups alongside other adults who have all decided to make a positive change in their lives.
You will have regular access to a progress coach to guide you through the course, helping you with any stresses or challenges you may face and keeping you on realistic targets.

We hold a Higher Education Fair where representatives from local Universities come to Fircroft to talk to our students – you will also have the opportunity to speak to the experts one to one.
We hold a Careers Fair where professionals from a wide range of vocations come to talk to our students about their work and potential entry routes into their profession – again, you will have the invaluable opportunity to question these people.
You can choose to be a residential student and live at Fircroft College. This will help you to really ‘get away from it all’ and focus on achieving your goals. All your meals and accommodation will be provided and your room is cleaned for you. If you have caring responsibilities which mean that you cannot be resident then we have some non-resident places available on the Access to HE programme – and even if you are a non-resident your lunch is provided!
Fircroft is a very pleasant place to live and learn, occupying a beautiful former Cadbury family home set in six acres of gardens, yet just fifteen minutes from the attractions of central Birmingham and benefiting from excellent transport links (buses to the city centre and elsewhere stop right outside, train station just 15 minutes walk away).
Accommodation for Access to HE students is of a high standard – all bedrooms are large, private and the vast majority en-suite. Many have period features and enjoy stunning views over the gardens.
Teaching rooms are bright, spacious, modern and fully accessible. ICT facilities are plentiful and free wi-fi is available to all students.
During course time our library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Access to HE students are also able to use the library facilities at the nearby University of Birmingham.
There is a vibrant social scene with trips, events and activities organised throughout the year. There is a common room with free newspapers, TV/DVD and free hot refreshments, separate TV room, recreation room with a free pool table, dart board and TV/DVD and a quiet/prayer room.
All learners who enrol on the Access to Higher Education course at Fircroft will receive payments to help with living costs for the duration of the course, regardless of their age. Other financial support is available e.g. travel costs and childcare costs.
All learners who take out a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan and continue on the course will receive an additional £500 allowance, on top of their living allowance.
