Social Science Tutor with Responsibility for Progression
Salary £28,715 - £32,303 per annum
37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum
Fircroft is a residential college occupying a former Cadbury family home, set in six acres of beautiful grounds in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We were originally founded to provide educational opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged and excluded members of society. Fircroft is currently in an exciting phase of improvement and development, we are now in a position to appoint an experienced Social Science Tutor. We anticipate you would spend half your time teaching our Access to HE programme in areas such as Sociology, Social Policy, Psychology or related areas of expertise. Your other teaching would primarily be on Study Skills across the college, and you would support your colleagues to embed these in their own teaching
As a member of the Education Team, you will contribute to the development of our curriculum. You will be required to meet the targets and criteria set by the college for Outstanding teaching, learning and assessment. As part of the role, you will collaborate with staff across the college to ensure an excellent learner experience and progression and will participate fully in the college’s quality improvement activity, including moderation and learning walks. You will contribute to the continued development of our courses, and will be integral to increasing the proportion of learners progressing to further/higher study and employment. You would have specific responsibility for liaising with relevant HEIs and helping Access students with their UCAS choices.
To be considered for this role you must have a relevant degree or professional qualification and a recognised teaching qualification, a track record of curriculum innovation and materials development and the ability to teach relevant subjects across the college, including Access. You must also have the ability help others develop their practice in relation to study skills and employability and to provide relevant progression advice. You will have a personal commitment to reflection and CPD.
The right person will be someone who enjoys working at a fast pace with a variety of different tasks, who is self-managed with a strong work ethic, who has a positive outlook and a ‘can do’ attitude and is a completer / finisher.
